Anyone experiencing an issue when lauching Word/Excel 97 docs in the Win2000 from Start -> Documents -> filename.doc ? Seems it always tells me doc with same name opened or already in use by another user when file is on the Win98/Fat32 volume. This is not the case though.

Any ideas why this occurs?

Installed Win 2000 Pro on a separate disk volume so it exists in dual boot mode with Win 98. Win 98 on fat32 volume and Win2000 on NTFS volume. Office 97 then installed on Win2000. Office 97 also present on Win98.

Hello,

if you use Word for Windows, look for a file like ~ilename.doc. If this file exists and you know noone else is using filename.doc file delete the ~ilename.doc. Word always creates this file as a reminder that this file is in use.

Karpi,

Thanks, but no tilde prefixed files found that are even close to names of files I'm opening.

I am having the same problem. I found that installing Office 97 SP1 & SP2 fixed the problem in Word but not Excel.

I have this problem on 3 different PC's now, all different brands, all only running Win2k with SP2.

Any body else have any ideas?
