Recently installed a new server with SBS 2003 on it. Copied data from old server, mostly word documents. Since copying them across they cannot be opened in Word by users logging in to the server from their workstations. The folder with the documents is shared and all users have full access rights to the directory and files. Yet they can open the .doc files with wordpad, but when they use Word (which was used to create the documents in the first place) it just hangs. If you open them with wordpad they open fine, then save the file, it'll open in word (nine out of ten times, but you can't do this to over a 1000 documents). I have copied the documents on to the server again and the problem still occurs.

We have tried installing word on to the server as well, but it still does the same thing.

If it annoys Microsoft then it's worth doing, and doing well!!
