Brontosaurus is right, you can use the older clients. I would consider upgrading to Outlook 2003 if you are using Exchange 2003. You might also want to access the Exchange Server through Outlook Web Access to get an idea of what the Outlook 2003 interface looks like.
Exchange client licences include Outlook 2003 clients, but I would NOT recommend installing the Outlook 2003 client if you are using a different version of Office. If you have differing versions of Outlook from Office apps, you lose functionality such as Mail To, Mail Merge, etc.
