Do you need different licensing for IP conference units?

Hi,

I want to install a polycom unit in one of our conference rooms. Basically our building has both analog and IP sets. (2008/1120 etc.)

I'm wondering if I can purchase a polycom IP phone and use the IP TN's or is there a special type of licensing required.

I know with analog lines, you can use a polycom unit or a 2008 set with the TN, it doesn't matter.

Is it the same for 1120/Polycom IP?

Polycom makes IP sets, digital set programmed as a 2616 and analog sets programmed as a 500 set, I have used them all

The IP 6000/7000 use SIP and are unlikely to work on your system. Avaya sells the 2033 which is based upon Polycom hardware but works IP with CS 1000, BCM, and CS 2100. The 2033 is a single line IP Phone so can use the basic IP ISM (same as 2001/1110/1210) or the normal IP ISM.

^^^what gwebster said. You have to use the Nortel version of the Polycom, the I2033, due to the firmware on the phone.

The Nortel i2033 (polycom IP phone for nortel) can use a Basic IP user license, which is about half the cost of a Premium IP user license.

The license selection is automatic. If you have available Basic IP user licenses, programming an i2033 on your system will use one. If all you have are Premium IP user licenses, then the station will use one of those if there are no Basic licenses available.

The IP 2033 unit is the way to go. The analog Polycom units always worked great with an analog line card port; the digital Polycom emulating a 2616 we had issues with from a user perspective.
