I was told you have to have a client agent/license for ever machine you wish to backup when using Arcserve version 9. Is this true? I know Arcserve 6.61 and 2000 had client agents, but you did not have to have them to run backups on remote machines. Thanks for any help.

You will only need to have a license for a machine that is running the NT/2000/XP client agents. You can backup remote machines without the client agent, but it does not use the push technology of the client agent. It will basically map the drive and pull the information accross. If using the Disaster Recovery option, you will only be able to perform DR on the local backup server. The client agent is needed for remote machine Disaster Recoveries (the agent sends the DR info needed to the BU server at the time of backup).

ACtually, that is incorrect. The client agent only has to be licensed when it is backing up an SERVER. The client agent for XP/NT/2000 and SERVERS is the same program. YOu can use it to backup unlimited workstations, you need a client agent key code put in the main ARCSERVE 9 BAW program when the agent is loaded on a SERVER.
