Hi all,

I'm really new to Perl and would like to find a host to test my scripts. At the moment I couldn't find any free web hosts that support CGI yet...therefore I intend to test it on Windows Personal Web Server. Does it work?

Thanks ...

Yes,
PWS is basically a lightweight IIS, I'd recommend Xitami from imatix.com, a free lightweight webserver, takes a bit of getting used to, and it's different to Apache which will require some cross training

Apache is well worth the effort, but for a novice is probably a bit daunting.

Have a look at the FAQ section here, and the Perl Forum

Dump PWS and IIS and Use Apache. It is free, rock solid, and ubiquitous.

1 - go to 2 - download an appropriate win installation
3 - double click and anwers the typical software install
questions.
4 - See about configuring your installation to run CGIs.
5 - modify your http.conf file, if needed. The default may
work just fine.

Start to finish, less than an hour.

Also, please see faq452-872 about getting CGIs to work on your win box.

'hope this helps

I agree with goBoating 100%! It's actually easier to learn than IIS/PWS and doesn't have the security holes that IIS has.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
