Do the asp files really have to be under I am trying to install my asp files on a server. All of the files are serving (.html, .js) but my asp files. Now I have looked at the configuration of the IIS and I have determined (at least I think I have) that these websites are running under virtual directories and are not under As a matter of fact this server has no Could this be my problem?

I checked out those FAQ's and the reason that I asked this question is:

The machine I developed in has its default website as a virtual directory to I am trying to install the asp pages on a different machine. The machine I am trying to install to does not have a that I can find. That is why I asked this question.....I guess it is better to say...is it possible to have a default directory that is not a virtual directory to

There is nothing special about Simply a name so that people have a common place to look.

Yes a virtual directory can be anywhere. As long as it is declared as a virtual directory in IIS That'l do donkey, that'l do

Well I have figured out why I was having difficulty serving the asp files. I am posting the solution because I have seen lots of unanswered posts that may relate to this problem. Two possible errors for this problem are:
Page Not Found or Object Disabled.

The server had been locked down with the IIS Lockdown Wizard. If it is locked down as tight as it will go, the IIS will only serve static files (such as html files). The system admin had to enable the server to allow asp files to be served. The steps to do this can be found in the following knowledgebase article:
