Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
Unless you're using thin-clients, like Terminal Services or Citrix. In this case, aside from the simple black screen saver, you'll be using bandwidth whenever somebody's screen saver image changes.
Generally speaking, locking the server is good, but using resources for pretty pictures is bad. t will effect network performance in as much as it slows the server.
Simple answer (IMHO) is you don't need a screen saver. Blank screen, password protected should be fine.
Bu if you have to - as someone said, don't use the 3gl ones - flowerbox etc, that hammers the machine.
