Microsoft is not clear on that subject. I would be interested to know if softwares working well on XP (Mailwasher, Microsoft Office, Guitar Pro, Nero, for instances)works too on Vista. Does any Vista user has experience on that?
A lot of the current software will work on Vista, a lot of Security type software will not, it really is a hit and miss affair. Anything that delves deep into the system internals is likely to fail.
As more and more software companies release updated versions of their software and drivers to match, these problems will begin to disappear.
From your list I know that there have been problems with Nero. Office or any Applications by Microsoft should be OK.
Sometimes by using the Compatibility mode of Windows XP SP2 you can increase your chances of getting something to install and run that otherwise will not run in Vista.
This is why I assume Vista is being released to Manufacturers before it is released to the general public so they can get everything working?
