Zone Alarm 4 was used by the time of SP1 and is a little incompatible with XP now. The version 40_123_012 specially gave me a lot of trouble on my CLEAN version of XP and I REALLY recommend you to download the last version that's a lot better.
The proof of this is that I worked with this version for some time and, a day, my computer "auto rebooted" just after I've connected to Internet. It was not reparable but when I removed ZoneAlarm the problem was gone.
I repair PCs on customers and I've also got problems with this version. It's always the same thing: it works a few days or a few months but, some day, you can't access Internet (404 error) or your pc reboot.
If you notice ANY connection problem and you have Zone Alarm Version 4, IMMEDIATLY try to uninstall it and download the version 5.
