Do Manufacturer Tests ever miss errors?

Hi All,

I've had two drives in the last week (1 at work a WD, 1 personal a Maxtor) toss NTFS errors and multiple bad sector errors (at least according to chkdsk). Later, I run the mfg's tests on the drive, and they pass (well, the personal drive hasn't had the most thorough tests run yet).

So, I'm left trying to figure out what to do next. Do the MFG tests ever have false positives (passes)? Also, if so, does anyone have experience getting RMA on a drive that passes the mfg tests?
