Do I need two servers?

I currently have two (old) servers. Each one running a different SQL application. Can I upgrade & migrate to one FAST server, or will I still need two?

Depends on what these "applications" are doing. If it is log shipping or replication or something to that effect, yes ... you will need 2 servers to continue to accomplish these tasks.

Thanks

Thanks for your response JayKush!

The first server houses a customer/contact/transaction database - which shouldn't be a big deal.

The other serves the manufacturing database - which has quite a bit of data/activity.

I was hoping to avoid the cost & complexity of two servers.

You should be able to run both on the same server. Just make sure you beef up on the RAM and get enough disc space for future growth. May want to make sure you have backups in line as well as having your discs in some type of RAID configuration. Just a couple of points off the top of my head.

Thanks

Thanks again Jay!

This could save enough to do one server right.

I was thinking of 2GB RAM, Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition, with mirrored drives (or RAID 5 if I could afford it).
Haven't chosen a hardware box yet. Most of my experience has been with Compaq & Dell. Any advice here?

Also ... Being in Austin/Round Rock Texas doesn't hurt for picking up a server pronto!

Thanks
