I have not been able to find a clear explanation of the need for/use of the DLC/LLC protocol when usinf HP printers with JetDirect cards. Does anyone have insight into the need for this protocol? Can I use just TCP/IP?

If you're using TCP/IP networking protocol, disable unused protocols (DLC/LLC, Netware, LPR, AppleTalk, JetDirect, etc) for a more secure connection.

LLC/DLC is HP's proprietary Logical Link Control/Data Link Control protocol.

It's been awhile, but I do recall situations I needed to use the DLC/LLC protocol even in a TCP/IP environment. Just don't recall exactly why, but if you're having a problem printing to a network printer, you might consider using the DLC/LLC protocol as well as the TCP/IP protocol. Otherwise, don't.
