Working with: CR/CE 10, Oracle db direct connect

All of my reports are stored in two places:
- On the CE server
- On a file server
When ever I need to make a change to a report I open one copy of it and then save it to both locations.

I would like to not have reschedule the reports (and/or re-enter the db credentials) on the CE server every time a modification is required. Is this possible?

Should I always open the CE copy and make modifications from there (or visa versa)?

Are there certain types of modifications that require a reschedule and/or re-entry of db credentials? If so what does/doesn't.

If anyone has any "best practices" they would be willing to share in this regard, I would be very interested.

Thanks,
Mark

In simple testing, it appears that you do not need to reshedule a report after modifications.

I built a report with 2 fields, and scheduled it to run every minute.
I then added a third field, and saved the report back to CE.
The schedule is still churning out reports. Instances that have occurred after the modification have the third field showing up.
If you don't want CE to blow away the Database Logon credentials, go to the CMC and select the report.
On the Properties tab, click the "Refresh Options" link.
Turn off the checkbox for "Default Database Logon Information".
You'll likely want to turn off the "Current and Default Parameter Values" checkbox too, depending on your needs.

I did some testing on this a while back (in CE 9 but I believe it is the same in 10/XI).

I determined that you need to re-schedule reports if you have made changes to Record Selection or Group Selection in the Select Expert. I think this is because the contents of the Select Expert are stored in the Filters tab of the CMC and are associated with the report instance at the time of scheduling.

But any change to the report canvas (eg adding a field, changing formulas outside of the Select Expert) does not appear to require re-scheduling for existing schedules.

Thanks Bob & gortuk,

Any recommendations on best practices re: managing 2 copies of the reports?

It's good to have your reports backed up to a network file location. When modifying reports, Open the report from CE, make your changes and save first to the network file location, and then test, test, test.
When satisfied, save on top of the report in CE (bearing in mind the notes from above.)
