Do I need smsls.exe?

Hello, I have SQL Server 2000 box with a registery entry for smsls.exe, Does anyone now what this does and if it's valid. Yesterday, I had some clients with a virus and you had to delete this entry. But, I'm not sure this is the case for this box. All the machines that were affected yesterday, also, had the file running in the task manager process section.
