I'm at the beginning of this project. I want to create a Linux system that will perform the services of Webserver and FTP Server. Basically, it's a little machine that I have sitting behind my firewall for me to play with HTML, MySQL, and PHP as well as serve as a FTP site for my friends to download and upload stuff they find and want to share.

In order for the machine to do these things, should I install it as a Workstation or as a Server using Red Hat 7.3?

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Since both the services you mention contains the word server, I suppose you want to install a server.

I guess buried in my question is more of wondering what the difference is between Workstation and Server in the RH distribution.

What's the difference? Specifically?

Workstation doesn't include the server packages that you obviously want to install, so if you install it as a workstation, you will only get various office applications and the GUI programs.
Server however, doesn't include the office applications but does include the server software, which is sort of needed if you want to run a server. I'm not sure if it installs the GUI or not, as I always do a custom install anyway.

I would do a custom install and install the stuff you think you need.
