When I run msconfig on win98 machine i get these and was wondering do i need them all?

Scan registry \windows\scanregw.exe/autorun
Taskmonitor \windows\taskmon.exe
SystemTray \windows\systray
LoadPowerProfile \Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll LoadCurrentPowrScheme
Aticwd32 \windows\aticwd32.exe
siscolor \color.exe
SystemDllResources \windows\SYSTEM\sysdll.exe
System \windows\system\sysctrl.exe/a

A search for sysdll.exe got some trojan info links. Download Moosoft's Cleaner and run it pronto. It's a trojan specific scanner. Does it detect anything? --------------

Scan registry --leave it checked. This is what automatically backs up your registry at startup.

Taskmonitor --Up to you. Microsoft's description: "The TASK MONITOR tool included with Windows 98 records the disk access patterns of programs when they are started and stores this information in log files in the Applog folder. (c:\windows\applog) Task Monitor also records the number of times you use a program. Disk Defragmenter uses this information to optimize your hard disk so that programs you use frequently are loaded faster." I have it unchecked and i've seen no difference in the loading speed of programs I use frequently. Another reason I have it unchecked is if the files in the applog folder become corrupt then disk defragmenter won't run properly or at all. Unchecking it won't cause any problems. If you do uncheck it then open defrag and click the settings button and uncheck "rearrange program files so programs start faster" then exit. You'll want that option unchecked if you uncheck Task Monitor in msconfig.

SystemTray --leave it checked But about all it does is load the volume control and power management icons down by the clock.

LoadPowerProfile --this is for power management. If you don't use standby then you can uncheck both lines but you can leave them if you want.

Aticwd32 \windows\aticwd32.exe --you can leave it checked but I found this on a website: "Driver enhancement for some ATI VGA cards. Recommendation: We have never seen an instance where this background task is needed."

siscolor --not sure what it is but you might want to leave it.

As PAnderson mentioned, uncheck these especially if you don't know what they are:

SystemDllResources \windows\SYSTEM\sysdll.exe

System \windows\system\sysctrl.exe/a

Thanx for the feedback boys - worked a charm
