Hi All, need a suggestion on report design.

If I have a project table and 4 detailed tables( ie more details on project like status table, costs table, etc etc) where each detailed table is linked with project table on ID many detail to one project.
I need to display all data in one page/project.

Wanted to know what all options do i have? Do i need to create 4 different queries or 4 different repotts and merge all 4 reports together or is there any other option. Im on XIR2 version and datasource is universe.

Thanx

Hi,
Several approaches but try linkiung the project table to each of the detail ones using the ID (left-outer joins is some detail tables may not have the ID while others do)

Group on the project ID and show the detail info in that group's detail section.

Thanks Turkbear, I had tried that, but it forms cross joins,

For example If i display project data and table 1 data , report displays accurate results but as soon as i add data from table 2, it doesnot show me right results, seems like it forms cross joins.

And if i create different reports i . e 2 in this case project + table 1 and second report as project + table 2 and insert them as sub reports in main report I get right results. If I go this way Ill have to create 4 sub reports as I need data from 4 detailed tables. And in my other report ill have to create 7 subreports since there are 7 detailed tables involved in that report.

Can you suggest me any options where I dont have to create sub reports but display all data from all the 4 tables in one report only?

Thanks

Hi,
If the Project table is linked to each detail table by the ID and the detail tables are not linked to each other, I am not sure how you would get cross joins.
Can you post the query produced when the second table is added?

Quick question... I have done it two ways.

Forming 4 separate queries at report level.
And, forming 1 query at report level, since the tables were joined at universe level.

Which one do u suggest me to post here?

Thanks

I was not aware that a Universe was involved..That could complicate things
Can you just add the tables to the report without using the universes ( They add a layer that could be causing the issue due to their relationships/attributes, etc.)
