I just downloaded the file "PCLinuxOS-Livecd.iso" 635 MB into "downloads" into my 586 Computer. Now what is the next step?

- should I burn a CD from the *.iso file?
- Will the burned CD start the program "PCLinuxOS" on my
computer?

To me this is a grey area and I would appreciate if you could shed some light on how I should proceed. I understand that "PCLinuxOS" should be easier and better than Knoppix. It has
Xserver, KDE 3.3, Thunderbird 1.0 and Firefox 1.0 as well as p2p filesharing.

Thank you for your help.

Charles.

You need burning software that will "burn a CD from an image". This will unpack the iso and create a working CD. If you were to just burn the CD you would have a CD with one file (PCLinuxOS-Livecd.iso)

Thank you Franklin 97355 and pcunix for your help.
I did exaclt what Franklin suggested. I used the NERO software for burning a CD from my ISO file. Boy, was it ever fast, in just 3 minutes I had a brand new SQFS file (646,828 MB) which works like a charm. PClinuxOS - LiveCD is an excellent program.

My next job is to figure out how to save Open Office files and how to configure my printer HP Deskjet 890C, without installing PclinuxOS on my hard drive.

Memo to pcunix:
Do you mean to use the DOS command line or the Terminal Linux command line? I did not get it....

Charles.

cdrecord is a linux tools used to write iso files to a CD.

Cheers.

If your intrested in saving with a live distro you'll need to save to floppy, use the new live distro that can burn changes onto the end of the CD ( ), use a memory stick, or fips or partion magic your hard drive to create a small linux partion without touching the data on the exsisting partion (but shrinking the partion), and mounting home and etc there.

Once in a while I boot up my Knoppix Live CD.
First I insert a USB Memory Stick (Fat16).
Knoppix recognises this USB stick.
When knoppix is fully booted I can mount the USB stick in Read/Write modus.
Now I can do my thing in Open Office (or whatever app.) and write the results to USB memory stick. It works like a charm.
