Two PCs running XP Pro networked using a crossover, one connected to dial-up internet but no ICS. Network no longer working, indicating network cable unplugged for a few seconds, then connected, then unplugged, etc. Tried changing NICs, cables, using hub rather than crossover, etc. still the same (no link lights on hub when indicating unplugged). Has anyone come across a virus with these characteristics? I thought it was a straightforward hardware problem, but as I charge by the job rather than the hour I'm now working for nothing. Customer has no AV software installed. Any ideas appreciated.

Howdy:

Sounds like either a bad NIC or bad cable..
