I have a customer out in the field that has 824 DR5 and DID's. He says that the DID card is providing dial tone and that the carrier is having problems with that. Is it ture that Norstar sends dialtone on DID and can it be turned off? Any help, info or idea's would be great.

Thanks, Richard S. McCranie

DID is inbound only with no dial tone, It would have a key programmed on the set for DID and when pressed it would tell you inbound only... they do have dial tone trunks for their outbound calls though.

I agree with Curlycord. Are you sure the customer does not have a PRI. That can be set up for incomming and outgoing calls (kinda). Thephoneboy.

Couldn't have a pri on a 824, might have a split/doubled pair though, have the customer put a butt set on the DID at the demark and then pull the amphenol cable off of the phone system to verify that D.T. is/is not coming from the phone system.(or even that it is there) JerryReeve

I had a similar issue with an 8X24, I was getting dialtone on a DID card (and wasn't sure I was supposed to, still can't remember if you are)anyway I couldn't get calls in on these DID's. Whenever I tried calling in on the DID's I would get dialtone, and at the dialtone I would dial the Recieved Digits for the DID and the call would route to the appropriate phone for the Target Line. Anyway to make the long story a little shorter after working with the local telco for many hours, they built the DID's as "MF DID's" they changed them to "DTMF DID's" and it worked like magic. The only thing here is I don't recall if we got dialtone on the DID's after this change was made. I don't know if this applies to your customer's situation, but I thought I would share it anyway, hope it helps and if not hope you get it resolved soon. Good Luck

Yes, a did card on an 8x24 system will provide dialtone. However if you had a DID card on an MICS it only provides battery. No, there is no way to turn it off ( at least not that I have found )

let me clarify... A DID card on an 8x24 system will provide dialtone to the CO. clip on the telco side of the dmark and get no battery or dialtone, clip on the 8x24 side get battery and dialtone.

Thanks guy's. I did some testing myself and got dial tone as well. I now have some idea's which way to go.

Thanks again, Richard S. McCranie
