newbie here,
in AIX 5.2, if I do a kill -1 on a process, will it automatically respawn or does it depend on what kind of process etc?
I did a ps -ef | grep root and then found a process that is taking up 25 percent of my cpu resources (looked at topas) and the sar 5 5 shows idle time down to 74% when it is usually at 98-99% regular.
anyway, just a question if anyone wants to help
appreciate it

/etc/inittab controls what processes are started at which run level. A process can be set to run once, wait (for competion before continuing) or respawn.

You can change this on a running system but you need to issue a "telinit q" to get the init command to re-read the file; just take care as messing up the file could result in a knackered system!
