Do 16-bit grayscale scans pose problems for offset printing?

G'day,

I'm scanning a lot of grayscale pictures and the scanner gives me the option of using 8-bit or 16-bit with the warning that some applications don't support 8-bit grayscale. This made me think that perhaps images of this depth might make problems for the printers. Do you think this matters? Does the printer specifically need to be set up for these kind of images? I usually hand off a PDF,
Any help greatly appreciated
cheers

Nick

My expierence with offset presses is limited to a 3 cylinder AB Dick and as far as I know as long as it's grayscale it shouldn't matter if its 16-Bit. But it sounds like your talking about a printer and not a press so I guess I don't know. Doubt this post helped to much but hopefully it did something.
