Whats the difference between WINS and DNS server?

WINS server resolves netbios names (computer names) to IP addresses, for example if you have a WINS server set up you can ping a computer name rather than pinging the address, the wins server resolves the computer name to an address, this cut down on the amount of broad casting on your network.
DNS server resolves Internet domain names or addresses to IP addresses. Having a DNS server set up on your network will save you alot of time if your DNS entries change, you wont have to visit every single computer on your network to manually change the DNS.
