DNS vs. IP / PC browser vs. Mac browser

We have an IIS server set up for a dev and testing region. On PC browsers we can access web apps on this machine using the dns name. On Macs we have to use the ip.

e.g.

PC: servername:8040
Macs: 192.168.0.123:8040

Anyone know how to remedy this?
