OK I'v managed to connect the HP to the PC via the HUB.
They can ping each other.
However if i run something like nslookup or ftp, the system can't connect. The DNS entries are correct becuase I use them on the PC(win2000).

how do i resolve this ?

thanx.

pleae excuss me if there is a similiar post already.

Hello:

First of all I have some questions:

1 who is the name server now, the Pc or the server?
2 when you make ftp with the IP adress instead the name, is there any problem?
3 Have you set correctly the IP adress of the name server in the other side (/etc/resolv.conf in the server)
4 The name server resolve correctly his own name?

I think there is host file somewhere in win2000 add your hp's name and IP. do the same thing on hp system.
Location of host file on HP is /etc/hosts.
your nsswitch.conf should look like this on HP side.
more /etc/nsswitch.conf
......
hosts: files dns
.......
.......

You don't need resolv.conf file if you are not using DNS.
If you are using DNS you have to make change on DNS server.
