Hello.

I am running Apache for win32.
I've bought a domain name at NetworkSolutions one month ago and then I set up the Dot Com Forwarding System of their own, to point to my web site on (the server is runnig on port 3000)

It works fine, but it doesn't mask my IP address. I've chatted and chatted with the guys of NetSol Customer Support and they told me that the Dot Com service doesn't mask the IP address.

Well, that's clear for me. But I can't realise what is the procedure to have (I don't mind if I have to use their DotComFwd service or not) the domain name I bought AND the web server on my company running together INCLUDING IP maskerading.

I only want customers to type my domain name on the browser and to access my site hosted at my Apache for win32.
I am going to migrate to Apache for Linux A.S.A.P. and it would be great if I can find a solution for both OSes.

Thanx and sorry about the lenght of the post... :-( Arlequín

Go to and they can have DNS point to your ip using You will have to modify your records with Network solutions to point to Zone Edit's name servers but after that, you can make all the changes yourself without having to fill out request forms and waiting 48 to 72 hours for the changes to take place. You can also have your mail (you@yourdomain.com) go to your own server or another e-mail account. If your web server goes down you can also forward calls to to any webpage on the internet until you get it back up and running again. The service is free and is the next best thing to having your own dns servers.

Hi,

It does look that the only 'hosts' you can define for a netsol domain are alternative DNS servers --> .

That would mean that if you want to use a canonical name like then you either have to get someone else to host your dns (e.g. as per RhythmAce's suggestions above) or you install bind and host the dns yourself. You can't do that right now if you are using apache on win32 though.

I don't know how the netsol forwarding works but you could try using the domain name only and see if that does forward correctly, i.e. etc .

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help, boys !!

Your posts have been wonderful.
Now I am setting up my Apache, I want to run the company web site on a virtual server... I don't want the 3000 port anymore, let's say that when a customer types on his browser, I want Apache to bring a Virtual Server up for that domain name.

Is it possible?

What do I have to do in the httpd.conf file?

Thanks in advancec Arlequín
