Hello everyone!

2003 AD Domain
2 DCs, both running AD integrated DNS...

QUESTION:
Should these two DCs point to each other for DNS resolution?
i.e. DC1's DNS server address points to DC2; and
DC2's DNS server address point to DC1?
What's the propper way to do this?

Part 2!
I'm installing another DC which will have DNS as well. This server will sit at our DR site with a very low cost to minimize a lot of network trafic between the two sites / and replicate only so often.
Question: What address should I give DC3 for DNS? Does it matter??

Many thanks!!
Brandon

your first domain controller should for surely be pointing to itself, the 2nd however I have heard various recommendations but I would end up suggesting having it also point to itself.

Address for DC3 if your thinking ip address, i would make that decision based on how you are planning on setting up your AD Sites based on your DR scenario. Good luck.

Ok, thanks... let me explain our network just a bit:

Hub & Spoke network. One DataCenter / NOC (at the hub of course).
DC1 and DC2 are at this Data Center.

Our DR site is just another 'spoke'... same domain\ same site, etc.
I'm installing DC3 there as a 'backup' DC for the domain. I want DNS, Copy of Global Catalog, etc. on DC3 for DR purposes.

So, with that being said, couldn't I point DC3's DNS IP to DC1 and/or DC2 which are back here at the HUB/DataCenter? (as long as their is routing between our DataCenter and the DR site- which there is).

In "Sites and Services" I will make a new site called "DR" or something like that. I should be able to throttle down replication between our HUB and the DR DCs via this mmc, right?

Am I on the right path here?
Am I missing anything?

Many Thanks!!
Brandon
