DNS: setup internal DNS to access internal website withouth the www

I need some assistance, as I cant find a solution that works.

I have a Windows 2003 domain, called "domain.com". Our company has a website, hosted on a Webserver. The URL to this website is "
My goal: access the website on an internal domain pc without typing in www.

If I am on an external pc, I can access the website without the www.

I created a CNAME record *.domain.com and pointed it to the FQDM of the website on the webserver. If I ping *.domain.com, it resolves to the website. If I ping drawnet.com, it resolved to our Domain Controler.

Am I missing something? Is this going to be possible with my domain being named "domain.com" and the webstite being

Pretty much no. This is the problem with using the same domain name inside as you use outside. domain.com from within AD must resolve to your AD domain for AD to continue to function.

A possible work around would be to install IIS on your DCs and have IIS redirect to
