DNS server (update A and PTR records)

i have a win 2003 server running out DNS, and a sonicwall running our DHCP. well i just had to do an nslookup to run down a machine, and the computer name and IP address were outdated on the DNS server

ive issues the

ipconfig /registerdns

command on the DNS server, but i wanted to verify if that will update the A and PTR records... or will i need to take some further steps?

You should have an AD server doing DHCP. It will register address leases in DNS automatically. I can't think of a compelling reason to use anything else.
