i rebooted my server last night and today the dns server seems to not be working. the server's ip address on the provate network is 192.168.1.2. i have made sure the dns service is running and also restarted it with still no success.

when i do nslookup on a machine with that dns server specified it came back:
"*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.1.2: Timed out"

after i restarted the dns server i got:
""*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.1.2: Non-existant domain"

it sounds like its looking for a reverse lookup record. but i never had one before and it has always worked fine.

Please help,
Matt

What's in the event logs? What did you change to cause the server to need re-booting? What comes up when you do ipconfig /all? Can you ping the server? Glen A. Johnson
