I am getting problems with DNS reverse lookup. We build workstations in a "factory" environment, where they register themselves in DNS. They then get moved to site, where they join the domain. In the forward lookup zone, the address for the record is correct, however, in the reverse lookup zone we end up with 2 entrie for the same computer name. One is just <computername>, the other is <computername>.Domain. This is causing problems when we deploy software to these machines (via TNG) as it often gets the wrong machine.

I have been looking at the scavenging and Dynamic update options which all appear to be OK. Has anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sara

Workstations are assigned IP addresses etc via DHCP from which they also get the DNS settings during the build procedure....

Ok, so they do not register themselves in DNS then, so it isn't dynamic DNS. So how are the DNS records built? Some sort of tool?
