I am having trouble with a DNS change. I want to have two system names mapped to the same IP address. I have a server called SERVER-A and am testing DNS to use a different name to access this server. I have created another A record called SERVER-B and can ping both server names and get back the same IP: 10.101.1.43. However I cannot browse to the aliased name, SERVER-B. I receive an error message stating there is a duplicate name on the network.
\\SERVER-A
\\SERVER-B

I know this should work as we actually already have this happening on one server.

Example:
Our print server is call PRINTSRV, but used to be called BANDSTAND. You can ping and \\ to both names and you get access to the server PRINTSRV. The server BANDSTAND doesn’t actually exist anymore.
\\sbopr
\\bandstand

Any of your helpful insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
