Last week I was told by my sitehost that I needed to update the nameserver records for my sites. I did this in the control panel for my domain registrar.
Saturday afternoon all my sites stopped working. Checking the whois record, they're all still pointing at the old IP address. The control panel at my registrar has the new details in.
The host and registrar are both saying it's a fault with the other (no surprise there)
I'm trying to get my head around how this whole system works (or doesn't in this case ;-)).
Even if what I entered is wrong, shouldn't those wrong values be propagated out so the whois records wouldn't show the old IP values but would instead show those wrong values?
The IP address of the new nameserver is the Ip of the host's nameserver. What tells the internet that the location of my nameserver ns1.example.com can be found on ns1.myhost.com.
And is there a way to make the internet, ns1.myhost.com, whatever try to reconnect/relaunch/rebuild my new nameserver ?
thanks
