Hello,

Im using Windows SBS 2008 as a VPN server.
I have opened PPTP on the firewall router.

DHCP(SBS) gives all incoming clients their IP address and DNS address(SBS Server).

I can successfully autheticate but cannot resolve any hostnames on the network.

It seems DNS does not want to communicate over PPTP.

I have tried activating WINS, and specifying WINS on the client VPN settings manually but still no joy.

Any ideas or help would greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Fixed it.

I changed the advanced DNS settings on the clients VPN connection.

DNS Suffix for this connection = mydomainname.local
Enabled "Register this connection address in DNS"
Enabled "Use this connections dns suffix in DNS registration"

According to NSLOOKUP my query for the hostname was going to my ISP's DNS server instead of my internal DNS server.

With the above changes I am forcing DNS queries to use the .local (my internal network)
