I am new and will try to give a good description of the problem.

First I have a 2000 dc which I can ping from the clients. The clients can get on the internet. The dc can't get on the internet and I have no out going e-mail (exchange 2000 but do have it coming in.

How do you have your DNS configured?

On the Server NIC, TCP/IP properties it should only list your own servers IP address. No ISP DNS goes here.

Same config for the workstations. If the workstations get IP via DHCP then be sure the DHCP scope options for DNS only provide your server's IP.

In the DNS snap-in, make sure you have put your ISP DNS on the forwarders tab.

Next, do you have a Proxy server or firewall installed?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks to you both, someone had gone in and checked the disable recursion under the advanced tab of the properties.
