I just set up DNS in our test lab on one of our machines. I have it going up to our main machine for the company if it can't resolve a name on our local machine.

Most everything is working fine, except that if I type in
'telnet orlprime', DNS doesn't recognize the machine. It just sits there. Same thing with ftp or rsh.

However, if I add the domain name to the 'orlprime' (as in orlprime.corp.aaa.bbbb) then it is recognized.

I can't see that AIX has the equivalant of the Sun command 'domainname'. I can't find anything wrong with my DNS setup.

Any ideas or suggestions?

in /etc/resolv.conf, the line is "domain whatever.tld", not "domainname"

I have the line for 'domain' in my /etc/resolv.conf file.

domain corp.acme.com
search corp.acme.com amce.com bgsdt.com
nameserver aa.bb.cc.dd
nameserver aa.bb.cc.dd
nameserver aa.bb.cc.dd

Hi,
what does 'domainname' give you??

What version of BIND are you runningand if you go into 'nslookup' what does 'orlprime' say??
