My new (test) AD is spread across a few subnets, the only hostnames that are appearing in the DNS are that of the DC's.

It's all working as expected, but I would have expected to see entries in the forward lookup zone for the domain.

All member servers on the production domain appear in the DNS, but I would expect this as they are all on the same subnet.

So I guess, what is the main function of the DNS entries, and why is my test domain working??

Thanks

hmm, its causing me problems... any one know what happens during DNS registration? How does a machine register with the DNS server?

Fixed... only port 53 UDP access was allowed, explaining the fact I was getting resolution but you need TCP access also for NetLogon to register in AD DNS, oops.
