I am new to SGI and have a strage problem, I can do nslookup just fine. But when I try do do any other activity (like ping) that requires a Domain to IP address translation, I get: Cannot resolve "whatever.com" (Unknown host).

Using the GUI network setup tool the selected the search order as: DNS, Files

Anyone have an idea on this?
Thanks

What version of Irix?

Older Irix used the /etc/resolv.conf for hostresorder but newer releases 6.5X now uses /etc/nsswitch.conf. You need an entry in the HOSTS line of nsswitch.conf that states files DNS.

Hope this helps

good luck
