DNS not forwarding

We have 2003 DNS servers that Windows 7 is not being able to forwarder out of for resolution purposes.

Example would be to ping "myserver", if this was not an entry in the 2003 DNS listings. The FQDN "myserver.company.com" works.

Also, as a workaround I been adding suffix entries in the TCPIP properties, but I really can't do that for every situation.

With Windows XP, everything was fine. We are planning on upgrading, but not until first of next year.

What change that would have caused this issue ? And is there anything that I can do now to resolve this?

In your local DHCP you need to add the DNS suffixes so that all the clients get them. Also, normally a client only has the DNS suffix in a domain-joined environment. Are the Win7 systems using DHCP and are they domain-joined? It's really not going to be an issue on the DNS server as much as one on your DHCP server and Win7 clients. You should be able to resolve it in DHCP by setting the scope option to add the suffix.
