Hi

I have some problems with DNS on my SBS2003 server. There are records in there that shouldn't be and some records and just wrong.

Its almost as though it needs a good refresh.

Can anyone advise please?

P.S. I know there isn't much information here but I am not sure what to give so please ask away

bump

somebody must have had DNS problems and had to refresh the entries?

Should I just delete all the entries and wait for it to repopulatE?

Purepest:
If I am understanding your question correctly, you have A records that have expired, but are still active in DNS.

This seems as if you should enable Scavenging and Aging within the DNS server.

To enable this, log on to your SBS and open the DNS MMC or remotely connect to the DNS MMC (which ever you prefer)

Next right click on the SBS server under DNS and select Properties.

In the Properties dialog box, click on the Advanced tab, there you will see a check box to Enable Automatic Scavenging of Stale Records, set this to 7 days (or a value that works for your network). Click Apply and click OK

Now, expand the SBS server in the DNS MMC. And the expand the Forward Lookup Zones.

Find the zone which you have the stale records in and right click it and select Properties.

On the General tab of the Properties Dialog box you will notice an "Aging" button, click that.

There you can enable Scavenging on the records, set both to 7 days. If you decide to modify the days, just be sure to set the Refresh Interval equal to or greater than the no-refresh interval

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help.

I had already setup the part in the forward lookup zone but that didn't appear to be working.

Hopefully adding the scavange in at server level in the DNS MMC will enforce the settings.

Is there a way to force it just now or will I have to wait for 7 days to see the results?

To enforce the Scavenging immediately:
- Open the DNS MMC
- Right click on the SBS Server
- Choose Scavenge Stale Resource Records

Hope this helps
