Hi

I have succesfully created a VPN through Sonicwall into my SBS 2k3 Server.

The problem I have is as follows:

When i click start > run and enter \\2003server, i receive an error message - network path cannot be found.

When i enter \\192.168.77.2 - the folder opens.

I know it is a DNS problem but not sure where to look.

Any suggestions please

Thanks

I would check that when you connect to the VPN you are getting the right DNS server via DHCP.

Are you using DHCP on your server or on the Sonicwall? If you are using the Sonicwall it might be because you are using the Sonicwall as your DNS server.

If it is just for one computer, then you could always add the address into the local hosts file.

Do you have any other firewalls in place? You may need to open the correct ports to allow this style of traffic maybe?

Try to determine if it's a general DNS problem first. Can you resolve other names on the network?

Also, in a CMD window, type: ipconfig /all

Look and see what your own IP and subnet mask is, to find out if you are on a network that can talk to the other host(s).

I set up a firewall once and was surprised to find that the VPN was handing out IPs that were not in the scope that I thought they were.

You could edit the host file on your local machine.

Open a command prompt and go to
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
Type edit hosts

then add the following

192.168.77.2 SERVER_NAME
