I just set up a dns server and i called it ns3.domain.com, and i set up all the zones and records. Then they asked me to change it from ns3 to ns1, so i changed the computer name to ns1, but now if i go into the dns console i keep seeing ns3, and i have to right clik on dns and say connect to this computer and then ns1 will come up and then i have to delete ns3, and i have to do this every time i open up the dns console is there a way that i could permanently delete that ns3 server so it won't show up there any more?

Did you deleted the OLD Computer Name from OU in Active Directory Users and Computers? In DNS, right click on the server name and use the aging and scavenging features and the update server Data Files. You may also may need to run ipconfig /registerdns on ns1.

Using the DNS manager right click on the domain container in the foward Lookup Zone. Select properties/ Name Server Tab, and delete the old Name NS3. It should disappear after that.

The computer is not in the ou in ad, i made it just a stand alone server, and i just did the ipconfig /registerdns and that didn't work, and i also right clicked on the domain container and whent to the name server tab and the only thing that was in there was there was ns1.

Is there any other ways that this could be fixed?

And just out of curiousity is there a way to backup just dns so that way i can create another dns server and give it the name ns1 from the begining and then just import all the zones and records?

There is a way to export all you hosts etc in a txt file but i have no idea on how to restore them
Open DNS out of Admin Tools right click on the server and select export list. This will give u a list of everything in the dns as a text file. You may have to manually enter all the details in again. Unless someone else can correct me!!??
