Ok, we are a good size school district setting up a new school this year with in an Active Directory Enviroment. We are a Netware Enviroment now. We are running a stand alone DNS server (lets say 10.x.x.1). We had no Domain Controller. This is a new setup.

I setup a DC at our District Office, one at the school and a file server at the school. Every thing works fine when my DNS address is pointing back to the new Domain controller (lets say 10.x.x.2). The problem is I need for a teacher to be able to take their laptops to another location and log in. The issues is our DHCP scopes in the rest of the district will hand out 10.x.x.1 DNS and they can't contact the DC. I have 250 + subnets district wide and would rather not have to change the primary DNS to the 10.x.x.2. Any ideas how we should be setting this up?

So where are your DHCP servers? And how have you got them setup to hand out the DNS of 10.x.x.1?

What is going to be easier to manage? Change the DHCP servers to give out a DNS of 10.X.X.2 or your alternative?

I may have just got it working. I did a 3 sec forward from 10.x.x.1 to .2 and vise versa. That seems to give me full functionality with either DNS server. Does anyone see any issues with this?
