Somehow our only DC / DNS server has lost all of the info about our domain and it has been replaced by the domain info of our parent company (seperate domain but can be seen by our server via WAN). The DNS object for our domain has a red X next to it and when you click on it the box to the right says "the DNS server encountered a problem loading the zone. The zone file may not be found or the zone data is corrupt.". Is it safe to remove the DNS role for our server then readd that role and, if so, will it then recreate our zone as well as all that _msdcs stuff that we need?

Any backups?

Got the windoes system tools installed?

if so

run a dcdiag and a netdiag.

Post any issue.
