Computer is a DEll, 5 years old, operating a Win 2000.
When attempting to contact a web site, (using either IE or FireFox), the page "Server not found, etc" appears. If the try again is clicked on three or more times quickly, then the computer proceeds to that page. While on line and a web site address is click on, the same page comes up with the same message. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.

Doesn't seem like there are many responders in this forum.

Where is your caching DNS? Use Cyberkit or nslookup on it a few times and see if you get consistent results.

If you do not, try PINGing it continuously and check the output for dropped packets. Assuming you're on a LAN and some PINGs time out, it could be a failing NIC, switch, cable, or a connection needing a fresh punchdown.

If all the nodes on your LAN have the same problem, that would suggest one or more of the above at or near the caching DNS.

If you have multiple DNS resolver, could be that one DNS is intermitant and the other stable. You would see wierd problems such as you describe.
