hi, im new to Dns i understand what it is and have some idea what is required. Im planning to use BIND on Linux.
The reason for this is im trying to create sub domains for my domain and i beleave this can be done via a name server so 1) do i have to register my Sub domains any where?
2) Is it nessery to have two seperate name servers?
3) if so can you use the same ip address but on a differnt port
4) is bind able to route names to an internal IP address to the web server on my lan.

sorry if some of these questions seem rarther dumb, but every ones got to start some where. and im just realy wanting to learn about it for personal use.

Thanks Matthew Roberts

1 If you don't want to use the sub domain outside of your network it's not needed to register it.
2 if you are talking about redundancy yes
3 Not clear : I'm sorry
4 from outside yes if the access from outside is open.
