DNS, Glue Records and IPs After Plesk Server Migration

Hi.

I am migrating 70 sites (850 domains dynamically served) from a dedicated server to a virtual server. I plan to carry out the plesk migration (which has been trialled and seems to be working fine - using remapped IPs for DNS etc) then change the glue records to point at the new servers IPs instead of the old one.

I presume that will efficiently transit the sites from the old IPs to the new.

My other main question is due to having three clients who point just the web part of their domain name to my server:

I can leave the old server up and running at the old IP with its old DNS intact, even though there would be no glue record directing to that server. Would client sites held on that server (using external nameservers still pointing at that IP) continue to be served?

I am hoping so since I cannot get all these external domain name holders to switch to the new server IP at the same time. If their sites will still be served on the old IP and the new when they change it, then I am safe from undue outages during the transition.

Any help greatly appreciated and please ask for any required clarification as I could do with as much info as possible on this before jumping.

Many thanks, Jim
