I am getting a problem on a win 98 machine connected via lan thru a link sys to a cable modem. What happens is a dns error and a internet explorer could not open search page message on top of the browser. Have tried upgrading browser to 6.0 (from 5.5 sp1) & to 6 with sp1. I have dumped all cookies & cached content. I have removed nic interface,tcp/ip & microsoft client numerous times. I can ping fine from a dos prompt to yahoo.com or to an address on the internet or locally such as to the router but I cannot ping or browse at all in IE. I have other stations configured the same with same os & versions of ie & they browse fine. I have reloaded the os on top of the existing os to no avail. Any suggestions to try would be appreciated. I don't want to wipe out & start over if possible.
