Hi,

I just brief my setup -
I am implementing a environment which has the following

1 -> 1st Root DC & DNS (ex: abc.com)
2-> Child DC this also installed with DNS (Child.abc.com)

While installing the AD on Child Dc I gave the Primary DNS server address as:1st Root DC's which has DNS and in alternate DNS :I gave the self address(child Dcs ip)...
And also I created Sec.Zone in Child domain as ABC.COM and loaded from primar DNs thru Zone Transfer...

The problem is

I am unable to have naming resolution from my Child DC (Child.abc.com).I am confused as its DNS not working Further I have to install Exchange Server as member of CHild domain(child.abc.com)

Please guide me as its sutcks my time.....

Thanks&Regards,
Srinivasan.N

Give your child DNS server it's own IP, and then use forwarding to your parent DNS server.

Hi,
Thanks Davetoo. So now what I have planned is as follows:

1)I'll uninstall DNS services and Child DC from the domain

2)I'll reconfgiure the Primay DNS address in TCP/IP properties with CHild DCs ip address and Alternate as : Root DCs ip

3)Then I'll configure Forwarding on CHild DC's DNS pointing the Parent Root DC's DNS

Will it be ok....Please advice your inputs

Thanks&Regards,

You don't have to uninstall anything. Set your Child DC's DNS properties to point to itself, then in your Child DC's DNS settings setup the forwarder to point to the parent DC's DNS server. That's all.
